May 2013 | Staff updates


More employees are joining, moving around, and advancing

Pamella Marie Sendon (Philippines), Researcher at Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology (PBGB) on May 2. She conducts experiments on rice tissue culture, transformation-increasing tissue culturability, and transformation efficiency. She also provides support in the laboratory transgenic rice production pipeline for trait development and assists in the molecular analysis and phenotyping of transgenic materials. Her office is located at NC Brady Building, x2430.

Rod Tomambo (Philippines), Assistant Manager I at Experiment Station (ES) on May 3. He oversees the crop establishment, crop protection and harvest of the researchers' plots, nurseries, seed production and rice production. His office is located at Experimental Station Building Complex, x2403.

Sheryl Sierra (Philippines), Assistant Scientist at Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology (PBGB) on May 14. She is responsible in the implementation of research activities for the development, validation and deployment of elite breeding lines with high yield potential. Her office is located at NC Brady Building.

Neil Bantasan (Philippines), Research Technician II at Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology (PBGB) on May 14. He provides technical support for population development, selection and phenotyping in the flooding trait development team. His office is located at NC Brady Building.

Wallace Daniels (United States of America), HRS Operations Manager at Human Resource Services (HRS) on May 20. He directly manages the operations of Staffing Services and Associate appointments, ensuring that the Institute continues to attract and hire the quality people we need to meet our mission. He also takes the operational lead on the implementation of a new modern approach to Learning and Development for the IRRI workforce. His office is located at FF Hill Building, x2824.

Leonard Baclao (Philippines), Research Technician II at Crop and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD) on May 20. He assists the researchers in conducting field and greenhouse experiments at IRRI and collaborative sites, including PhilRice, on characterization of components traits for lodging resistance and yield potential in rice using protocols set by researchers to enable them to generate the desired results within the set time frame. His office is located at DL Umali Building.

Ruby Lapis (Philippines), Research Technician II at Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology (PBGB) on May 20. She assists in all field and laboratory activities to ensure delivery of results. Her office is located at NC Brady Building.

Elmer Sanchez (Philippines), Research Technician III at Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology (PBGB) on May 20. He supports in day to day screening operations and laboratory experiments. His office is located at NC Brady Building.

Mary Anne Gutierrez (Philippines), Junior Specialist at Social Sciences Division (SSD) on May 23. She assists the laboratory head and other senior laboratory staff in the compilation, management and analysis of spatial data for various projects. Her office is located at Drilon Hall.

Angela Mae MiƱas (Philippines), Junior Specialist at Training Center (TC) on May 23. She organizes and develops web content of training materials, learning guides, and rice production recommendations from the Rice Knowledge Bank. Her office is located at Swaminathan Hall.

Jane Girly Cuerdo (Philippines), Junior Specialist at Social Sciences Division (SSD) on May 24. She assists the laboratory head and other senior lab staff in the compilation, management and analysis of spatial data of various projects. Her office is located at Drilon Hall.

Aubrey Fabro (Philippines), Researcher at Crop and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD) on May 27. She assists in the development and implementation of experimental protocols and methodologies, collection and compilation of experimental data and quality control measures in experiments at IRRI and collaborative sites, including PhilRice. Her office is located at DL Umali Building.
