Balram Marathi (India), Postdoctoral Fellow at Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology on January 3. Reporting directly to Kshirod Jena, he is responsible for the transfer of desirable floral traits from wild species/traditional varieties/landraces into CMS lines to enhance hybrid rice seed production. Russell Reinke (Australia), Senior Scientist at Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology (PBGB) on January 3. Reporting directly to Eero Nissila, he leads a breeding program in the Republic of Korea that aims to develop varieties suitable for temperate rice environments. Joining him is partner Leanne, daughter Alice, and sons Hayden and Mitchell. He is based in Korea.
Joong Hyoun Chin (Korea), Scientist at Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biotechnology (PBGB) on January 10. Reporting directly to Eero Nissila, he closely collaborates with breeders, geneticists and physiologists in developing pre-breeding products with increased tolerance for abiotic stresses. Alexander Stuart (United Kingdom), Postdoctoral Fellow at Crop and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD) on January 15. Reporting directly to Finbarr Horgan, he conducts research towards reducing rice vulnerability herbivores and/or insect-transmitted rice viruses as part of sustainable cropping systems.
